I jumped on the bandwagon and created a DW account (wildcat88). I fully intend on using it only to crosspost fic. LJ will remain my main place (for now). So, if you have a DW account, feel free to friend me.

Let's see if this crossposting thing works...

ETA: Woot! It finally worked!

I clicked on a link somewhere that took me to someone's post filled with pics. That narrows it down, huh? :) The pic I'm looking for is of Jason Momoa in a suit after the dreads were cut. It looks like a headshot for a portfolio. Anyone have this pic or know where I can find it?

Picspam!

If you've been following the LFWS challenge at [livejournal.com profile] sgahcchallenges, the verdict is in and [livejournal.com profile] linziday has won! Congrats on a job well done!!! As soon as the banners are done for the last 2 rounds, I'll post the links to my entries.

So, on to the next challenge. A new comm has been created (see below). This is for GEN stories (but not necessarily hurt/comfort stories). Go! Sign up now! Today is the last day. This is a terrific way to exercise those writing muscles. Prompts are given and the stories are very short.

ARTISTS - you are needed!! Sign up to create the wonderful banners used to celebrate the winners of each round. Pass this along to any other artists/writers you think would like to participate.

SGA LFWS GEN VERSION

LFWS stands for Last Fic Writer Standing. If you’re familiar with the LIMS in many icon making comms you know what this is about, but if you’re not this is how it works:

The challenge is composed of rounds. On each round the participants will have to write a story following a general prompt. Participants have a week to write something, so the fics will be short. Usually drabbles or something of the sort. The stories will be submitted to the mods and will be posted anonymously. Then the stories are voted. The voters will select their favorite and least favorite story, and can give reasons for the votes (always with constructive criticism, bashing and voting for yourself are not allowed). After the round of votes, one winner for the round will be announced, and one writer will be eliminated and not continue to the next round. No need to be afraid about not continuing, it is a natural part of the process. This will continue for as many rounds as necessary, until there is only one writer standing, which will be selected the Last Fic Writer Standing.

Those familiar with the new BSG will recognize the name Ronald Moore. He is famously known for revisioning Battlestar Galactica from the campy show of the 70s to the dark, gritty show that ended its run last month. Apparently, when they showed this new vision of the show at a con, the BSG TOS fans booed and hissed.

Why bring this up?

Tonight's CSI (Vegas) was about a murder at a scifi convention. An executive producer had reimagined a beloved scifi show from the 60s (a thinly veiled Star Trek). He debuts his redux at the convention - a dark, gritty, depressing version of it. The crowd is stunned into silence.

Until one man shouts, "You suck!"

Who was the man? None other than Ronald Moore! It was perfect!

If you read my fics, you will hopefully find a recurring thread of family, hope, and self-sacrifice - qualities that make for a interesting story (I hope!) and an admirable hero. They are just works of fiction though.

We'd all like to have a John Sheppard, wouldn't we? Someone we can count on to be there for us no matter what, someone who'd die for us if necessary. Well, good news! There is One.

Most of you know that I somehow have a different identity on every site. Here, I'm wildcat88. I'm ruffles on GW, and frisco on fanfic.net.

A couple of weeks ago, I was notified as "ruffles" that I had been nominated for the SG Fan Awards. I was blown away. I always thought those actors who said it was an honor to be nominated were full of crap. Now I know differently. Anyway, I logged in under the id and password and found one of my stories - Time to Heal - had been nominated. I was floored, awed, humbled, and a little shocked that it was a het story since I can count on one hand the number of het stories I'd written. I am truly thankful to whomever nominated that fic.

So imagine my surprise today when I had a message telling me I hadn't placed my fics yet. Under wildcat88. Aha! That double pseudonym rears its ugly head. Hee! I logged in under that id and found seven (SEVEN!) other fics had been nominated.

I am simply speechless. Again, if you nominated me, I am humbled beyond belief that you considered my story good enough for an award. I have happily placed my nominations. Thank you so very much. You guys rock!

Nominated fics are:

A Matter of the Heart

Shield of Protection

How to Lose Your Mind in Seven Days

Field Experience

Until Under a Better Sky

Token of Appreciation

The Bite of Delusion

I've been whumped by work and RL today. Therefore I am going to be shallow and fangirly and indulgent.

This way to the indulgence... )

Title: To Face What Comes
Characters: John, Ronon, Teyla, Rodney, Jennifer, Carson, Woolsey, Radek, OCs
Rating: PG-13
Spoilers: Through The Prodigal
Word Count: ~16,400
Summary: After a prison sentence and an experiment rip John's memories from him, his team must help him find himself again.
A/N: Written for a fic exchange with [livejournal.com profile] kriadydragon who wanted an aftermath fic with a very abused Shep, preferably him rescued from a vicious prison or slave camp, either skittish or having bad nightmares, and his team helping him overcome it. Sorry it took so long!! I hope you like my interpretation of the prompt. Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kristen999 for the beta and to [livejournal.com profile] writerjc and [livejournal.com profile] wild_force71 for the encouragement. All faults mine.

I have declared this to be the Year of Doing Something Different. You know, doing things I haven't done before, trying something new, getting a little out of my comfort zone.

So far, I went to a black-tie New Year's Eve ball, flew over 20 hours on a plane by myself to visit friends in Kenya, attended my very first SGA Con (something I NEVER thought I'd do), and signed up for online dating (the jury's still out on this one). And one of my fics, A Time to Heal, was nominated for the SG Awards. (A big thank you to whomever nominated me! I'm so honored!)

Today I walked to the grocery store. What's the big deal? you ask. Nothing, really. I'd just never done it before. We like our vehicles in my part of the world. Public transportation is almost nonexistent here in the suburbs. No one walks if they can help it. Almost everyone in Kenya does. It was...bizarre to see people streaming down both sides of the road just because that's how they get from Point A to Point B. So, today I walked to the store.

What did  you do today?

The entries for the Last Fic Writer Standing on [livejournal.com profile] sgahcchallenges are up. This round was a team fic that shows friendship and support. There are six entries, and each whumpy ficlet is 700 words or less so it won't take a lot of time. Reply to the post that is linked below with your vote of favorite and least favorite stories. Reasons are optional so don't feel pressured to do so (but we really appreciate the concrit when you do!) You can also leave feedback in the story comments like any other fic, but be sure to put your vote in the voting post linked below.

Go vote! Spread the word. The more feedback, the better. Voting ends early morning March 14.
